  • "When is the Schell Scenic Studio open for business?" Question mark
    • Our hours are weekdays, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, EDT.
    • On Saturdays between Labor Day and Memorial Day, we are open 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM EDT.

  • "Why can't I see the catalog pictures of your backdrops in color? Can you describe them to me? Do you have any color pictures that you can E-Mail me?"
    • Well, actually, you can see the backdrop pictures in color. Our color backdrop catalog is finished, and is available for download. It can be accessed from the main Menu at Downloads/Backdrop Catalog. Both the Black & White and Color catalogs are available. We ask that you fill out a small form requesting your name, organization and email address so that we can include you in our customer database. We can assure you that every backdrop is painted in the colors consistent with the appropriateness of the shows they're meant for, and no outrageous or oddly clashing colors are used unless specified in the catalog description.
    • As to our ability to describe the colors to you, it is our policy to not describe the drops to a customer, as our salespeople may not have seen the drop or know the specific colors, and we'd hate to give you misinformation. Please refer to the descriptions in your catalog for the most accurate details of our backdrops.
    • As far as E-Mailing individual color pictures, it is against company policy for us to send out our copy-written work in individual graphic files.

  • "What shipping method do you use? Do you still have airline shipping or Greyhound?"
    • For outgoing shipments, we only use UPS unless the customer specifically
      requests Fed Ex shipment and provides us with a Fed Ex account number to use. We find that UPS is highly reliable and inexpensive compared to alternative shipping services.
    • We no longer ship our backdrops and equipment on airlines or by bus. Shipping documentation requirements with other companies have tightened since September 2001, and we've found it easier to keep track of our shipments if we simply use one carrier.

  • "Why do you only rent backdrops by the week? I only need this backdrop for a couple of days."
    • Other backdrop rental houses often limit the days on which rentals can be shipped, and make up for this constraint by offering shorter rental periods. However, we have a more flexible shipping schedule, and can ship packages out Monday through Friday. This becomes very convenient when you need materials at the last minute, or you have to change the dates of your rental.
    • While you may be using the backdrop, or other rental equipment, for a day or two, chances are that the equipment will be out of our studio for a longer period, and we would be unable to rent it to anyone else during that time. Especially during the Christmas and Spring recital/musical season, this can really affect our ability to satisfy all of the requests for backdrops and other equipment. If a group only uses a backdrop on Friday and Saturday, it still isn't available to ship to someone else that week.

  • "Why do I have to reserve the order with a credit card? We don't have credit cards at our school. Can I use a P.O. (purchase order) instead?"
    • Much like a video store membership, or any other rental service, we require a credit card number to reserve rental orders for individuals and groups that do not have an account with us. This number is not charged unless the customer specifically tells us to use it for prepayment for Security Authorization. The card number is essentially another tool to help the customer understand that they are accountable for the safe usage and return of the materials rented from us.
    • With schools that do not have a company credit card to reserve equipment with, we recommend that you use a personal card. If this is not an option, the decision to waive the credit card is left to our company V.P., who may agree to reserve the order with a P.O.

  • "What happens if my rental is returned late?"
    • We understand that unforeseen circumstances affect everyone once in a while, and our customers do their best to return their rental items on time. If a rental is late, and we have had no communication from the group renting the materials, a late fee of one week’s rental can be applied. However, there are circumstances under which we may decide to waive the late fee.
